God is Faithful!

October 1, 2010

Every morning when I go running with Sophie, I take time to pray. I pray for whoever and whatever comes to mind. Sometimes, it may just be a quick one sentence prayer. Other times, I may spend the whole time praying for one specific request. I never know when I will receive an answer to my prayers. But I do know that I WILL receive an answer. God is always faithful to answer prayer.

God is faithful!

In Psalm 20, David is lifting up a prayer to God asking for safety, mercy, protection, and also answers! David expects God to answer His prayers, just as we are to expect God to answer our prayers. God has never nor will never leave a prayer unanswered.

Psalm 20
May the LORD answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.

May he send you help from the sanctuary
and grant you support from Zion.

May he remember all your sacrifices
and accept your burnt offerings.
Selah

May he give you the desire of your heart
and make all your plans succeed.

We will shout for joy when you are victorious
and will lift up our banners in the name of our God.
May the LORD grant all your requests.

Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed;
he answers him from his holy heaven
with the saving power of his right hand.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

They are brought to their knees and fall,
but we rise up and stand firm.

O LORD, save the king!
Answer us when we call! (NIV)

I love David’s assurance in the faithfulness of God. He says, “Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand.” Beyond a shadow of a doubt, David knows that God hears him first when he cries out in prayer, and that God answers him!

We can have the same assurance! We serve the same God that David serve. A God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. That means He is faithful to answer us just as He answered David.

Do you have a request to offer up to God in prayer? Do you need help making a decision? Are you not sure which direction to go? Do you need comfort and help? Are you in need of answers? PRAY! God is faithful and He will answer. And…

“May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.”
